My mother used to cook lots of 'old fashioned' foods in a wood fire oven when we lived in the country as kids. Rich, filling, wholesome meals and treats that would fill the house with wonderful smells. This is one of her recipes.
This loaf is best eaten the same day it is cooked.... delicious spread with butter.
